Mt Nimrod Endurance Riders Club, River Rd Ride Pleasant Point
A totally unbiased and accurate account for the second club ride of the season. YEAH RIGHT!
The weather closed in on the Friday night, cold and wet, but conditions were once again perfect for riding on the Saturday morning. (Someone must have been talking to the big guy upstairs again.) Forty three hardy souls brought their trusty steeds along, slightly more than anticipated but nether less the secretary handled it all in a dignified and unstressful manner! (Honest the raised voice was not from me!)
Thirteen riders started in the open 40km senior with K Avery and Silands Mia Bella home first in a time of 2:31:11 with P May second riding Silands Tric Tac same time. Third was K McLean on Naibara Dessert Chief in 2:36:15, fourth club member T Hore on Kizzi in 3:02:49. Unfortunately two riders had to be disqualified after taking an unplanned short cut by possibly talking too much and enjoying the ride and missing a marker (nothing to do with the absolutely brilliant course marking!) Also of note I was home fifth on Malton Lydia.
Twenty two riders started in the Novice 40km with 100% completion rate. Three junior riders: C Wadsworth, J James and J Hoult all completed the 40km junior novice well done guys! Four riders qualified the 25km Intro ride with one junior, H Johnson.
The ride itself was mainly around very wide road verges with enough hill to keep it interesting, coming down into river bed and a nice ride along the stock bank through the trees to home. The majority of riders commented about how much they enjoyed the ride and so the club has applied to hold a 1* and 2* ride there next Nov 2010. Watch this space.
At the Presidents speech it was nice to be able to have a prize draw for products donated by Mitavite, one of our sponsors. These were drawn by back number and the lucky winners where: K Anscombe, S Barnes, T Hore all of us took home a bag of feed and H Bray won the mineral and vitamin supplement sponsored by Prydes. Thanks goes to Mitavite and Prydes for their generosity, please support these Sponsors as they have wonderful horse feeds and products suited for tthe Endurance scene. Thanks also goes to the very dedicated ground crew who make it possible for you people to ride and not forgetting our beloved local vet Stu Moffat and the land owners.
The first Ride of the Season 16th August 2009
As I saw it
The day dawned fine and clear, with great promise. Nah just joking, the alarm went off far too early (it was Sunday!), kids wouldn't get up, I'm grumpy for not riding, the season has started!
Weather wise it was slightly cold but great riding conditions for all those hairy mammoths. Not soo pleasant for those of us left behind!
A great field turned up with 29 riders all counted and what was fantastic is that we had 100% completion rate. Nine in the open senior 40km, thirteen in the novice senior 40km, two in the novice junior 40km, and five in the 20km intro fun ride.
All though we didn't have placing as such just qualifiers in the open 40km Monica Smith riding Kishon Sonatina crossed over 1st in a riding time of 3:02:35 closely followed by Nichol Scannell riding Sunny Brae Jade in a time of 3:03:23 and Jenny Malcolm riding Delights Antar crossing in 3:24:11.
In the Novice 40km Veronica Pullar riding Joie De Vivre of Kishon came in at 3:30:20, followed closely by Kathy Mouatt riding Xenophon 2 in 3:30:47 and Kylie Avery on Silands Snipets in 3:31:27.
In the junior section we had E Buckland riding Landons Shamazahn in a riding time of 3:36:59 and Jorja James on Glenuar Kit-Kat in a riding time of 4:28:37.
In the 20km Intro Fun ride it was the turn of Serena Barnes riding Yussa home in 2:16:03 followed by M Holding riding Windego Kristabel in 2:37:48 and Sam Yeatman on G A Mahsaal Jack.
Welcome to the new members and first time endurance riders - Serena Barnes not so much first time welcome back. The Craig family, Lacy Stewartand Lisa Wright.
Many thanks to the people helping out on the day remember you can't ride if these helpers aren't there! Thanks also to the ever competent (long suffering and teller of tall tales) Stu Moffat our vet. And not forgetting the land owners - who provided the guess the weight of the fodder beet. AKA carrot thinnings!!!
Happy trials and catch you all at our next ride.
Meeting to be held at my place 269 Smart Munro Rd, Pleasant Point Monday 24 August 7.30pm. All welcome
Sincerely Your Secretary
Katy Anscombe
